We High Schoolers Love Math!

And we want to spread that love to the grades below us as well. Since 2019, we are no longer a Math Tournament! We've come to realize that not everyone enjoys only competition math, so we've shifted our focus to making math more enjoyable for everyone in the form of an Expo. Rather than making kids sit for an hour taking individual tests, we've decided to make the event more immersive, collaborative, and most of all, fun! Read about the new format for the event here.

We're not just an expo - we're an experience!

We strive to make WWPME a fun and inspiring experience for every one of our participants. Because of this, our mini-events are geared towards exposing students to the fun side of math. Our mini-events include exciting activities in cryptography (Secret Codes), estimation (Estimathon), and so much more. You can find more information about our mini-events here.

When and where is the expo held?

This year’s expo takes place online! We will send out zoom links to the expo in the days leading up to the event.

The morning session of the expo (grades 3-5) involves 3 mini-events lasting thirty minutes each and a team round lasting 45 minutes. The afternoon session of this expo (grades 6-8) involves 1 short problem-solving session of 45 minutes, two mini-events lasting thirty minutes each, and one team round lasting 45 minutes.

The entire event lasts a bit longer: For grades 3-5, the Opening Ceremony starts at 9:25 AM and the Closing Ceremony ends around 1:00 PM; for grades 6-8, the opening ceremony starts at 2:40 PM and the Closing Ceremony ends around 6:35 PM.

What materials are required?

Since this year’s expo is virtual, all participants need is a device to run Zoom on as well as a stable internet connection. In addition, they should have pencil and paper nearby to do their work on.

Calculators, rulers, protractors, compasses, or any other tools not previously mentioned are not allowed unless otherwise indicated by the event.

Who can register?

The exposition is available to students from any school district (including homeschooled) who are between 3rd through 8th grade. There are no prerequisites other than an open mind!
